What is verbal behavior?
Verbal Behavior is based on B. F. Skinner’s analysis of language in his book, Verbal Behavior (1957).  Skinner explains the science of Applied Verbal Behavior using the functional units of language, also called operants.  These operants are: receptive, mimetic/echoic, mands, tacts and intraverbals.  The application of these verbal operants into teaching is known as Applied Verbal Behavior (AVB)
Verbal Behavior constitutes the science of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), yet uses Skinner’s research to teach skills both in an intensive discrete trial format, as well as in natural settings.  Verbal Behavior focuses on a more natural presentation of instruction as well as more natural reinforcement for children.
